WOW, wow, and more wow. Not only did I realize how much of a city girl I have become after this trip, but it’s made me miss NY so much. Anyone want to take a trip back sometime soon!? Haha kidding, but first NYFW in the books and it was so so memorable! I have recaped:
– My overall feelings/opinion of NYFW
– My outfits
– 2019 fall trends
– My favorite collections
Okay so, I love fashion week. Like, LOVE. I loved the thrill of the shows, I loved the street wear, I loved looking at everyones’ outfits, I loved the mixers and after parties, I loved meeting new people, I loved the vibrant colors that Fashion Week brought to the city, I loved exploring and shooting all over town, I loved the weather, I just loved everything about fashion week. I am sold. Never missing one again unless I absolutely need to.
I had previously mentioned I didn’t feel I was adequately prepared, that my outfits would not have be up to par; but honestly, I got so many compliments on my outfits while in NY and so much amazing feedback from you all on Instagram! Obviously there is some fine tuning to be done, but overall, as first timers, I think I did pretty well. Kimmy and I were given standing priority for all our shows but one. Expected as it was our first. Well, we quickly learned that if seats are left empty, the designer’s team members will start pulling folks to fill those spots. Either it be from folks other seats (3rd row) or those with priority standing. Kimmy and I ended up sitting at every show except one! Now, I know this is probably something so silly to touch base upon but we were so stoked. Bottom line: outfits on point = getting sat in good seats. Even the team members at the end of the show would tell us how much they loved our style and vibes! AHH!!
Now onto the fun stuff, TRENDS. I am excited for this fall because I feel a lot of collections and designers implemented/restored the minimalism, timeless trend. I didn’t see anything too crazy or out of the ordinary which I am happy about. Although I love my statements, timeless pieces take the cake. You get the most usage and wear out of them and they are easily recycled throughout the seasons.
Trends to Note:
1. Leather and lots of it. Leather jackets, skirts, tops, big belts, pants, everything leather.
2. Colored leather. A lot of maroon and red leather.
3. Solid colored outfits. Literally head to toe looks in one hue (hats, shoes, and accessories all included in this). Obviously the pieces are all mixed materials, but yup, I’m going to be looking like a Hot Cheeto come October and I not mad about it.
4. Earthy tones. I mean, hi, that’s my life.
5. BIG SLEEVES. Yes!! So happy this trend will still be alive for at least another year. Nothing makes me happier than balloon sleeves or fun shoulder pads.
6. Timeless pants and blouses. Just your clean crisp basics. So many collections were just SO timeless, I couldn’t get over it.
7. Mini dresses, but done tastefully. Long sleeves for the most part, mod necklines, fun fabrics, but SHORT hems.
8. Satin fabrics. That delicate, subtle sheen.
My favorite collections:
1. Zimmerman (always and forever)
2. Jonathan Simkhai
3. Oscar De La Renta
4. Taoray Wang
5. J. Mendel
The goal for September Fashion Week is to be invited to one of the designers I listed above. Crossing fingers!
