Referring back to my blog post about Tyler and I’s current pre-wedding, job searching situation – well, my mom and I were talking things over about our potential living situation. Given that we don’t and won’t know what department Tyler will get into, searching for places to live was not only impractical but also a waste of money. Now that we’ve fully accepted our circumstances and are 100% fine with being that couple who lives with their in-laws for a little longer, my mom and I came to a solution!
To preface, our current home is a combo of a regular one-story 3-bedroom home along with a two-story 3-bedroom condo. The previous owner had many kids, and as soon as they all moved out, this ‘front home’ as we call it was too big for her. She then built herself a smaller living quarter attached to the back – a cute 1500 sq ft space with 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, and a kitchen and living space. Currently my aunt and cousin live on “that side”. My aunt moved in with us a few years ago when she was diagnosed with cancer. Well now, my parents want to renovate that side – the talk of renovations were already in the works since they’d have to renovate that side regardless when they’d sell the house. But not only that, they want to give it to Tyler and I for the time being! It would be until he’d get into a department and finish not only the academy but also his probation. It honestly could not have worked out any better. Initially we were stressing out about finding a place because we both have a TON of stuff and I did really want a separate working space for myself as well. However it would cost an arm and leg for a two bedroom unit not to mention that everything that was within our price range was pretty, well, bleh. Now, not only will we have 3 large rooms to ourselves but we’ll also be able to design and renovate our space to our liking!
WHAT. A. BLESSING. THE. LORD. IS. GOOD.
I guess the hardest part was just accepting the fact that we’d have to still be ‘attached’ to my parents for longer but it’s still a completely separate unit with it’s own side gate doorbell and entrance. We’d still have our own space which is what we really wanted kicking off our marriage so all in all, it works out perfectly.
With that being said, I’ve rounded up some photo inspo of what direction we’re thinking of going in! I’m also hoping that if we get this done before late June, I can host my bridal shower in our space.
I’ve always really been into transitional/contemporary styles. I just love clean and bright, naturally lit spaces with clean lines and minimal pops of accents and colors. I went through a modern farmhouse phase but if anything I think I just like the exterior look of a mod farmhouse – not necessarily all the aged/shabby chic style within the interior. We’re going to meet with some designers tomorrow but are also trying to get Tyler’s mom’s boyfriend involved since he’s a private contractor. Trynna keep this within the family y’all feel!?
