Revolve and my girlfriend Linh (@linhwinn) had a big impact on my these last two weeks, and all in the best of ways. For my OG followers, if you can recall, a lot of my outfits were statement or funky pieces. I loved mixing everyday pieces with street, military, and rock inspired pieces – that was me. I loved using pieces that spoke to me. Most of my outfits were ‘different’ and not necessarily practical for the larger mass audience, but those were what my vibes thrived on.
More recently, and I say that loosely, I’ve been doing more ‘everyday’ duplicable looks. During my months of trying to grow and hit my 10k milestone, I realized that those easy, everyday looks resonated best with the mass. I definitely think that’s what contributed to my quick growth. However, the last two months, I found myself growing bored and uninspired. I didn’t feel creative anymore. So many of the summer pieces were beginning to look the same. I would tell Tyler how much I missed my creativity and pairing dope pieces together. Of course I love my cute practical outfits, but those weren’t what fueled my original passion for fashion.
So what do Revolve and Linh have to do with this? Well, after going to the Revolve events, I realized how much creativity I had lost. I just felt plain and basic – not in the sense that their styles were something I could not achieve, but more so because THEIR styles were what I used to post when I started my Instagram and I have since strayed from that. I concluded that week of events more driven and inspired than ever! And Linh, well, she pretty much convinced me to chop off my hair and I am SO glad I listened to her because I LOVE MY SHORT(er) HAIR. My long locks weren’t going to suit the vibe and look I would be trying to re-establish myself as, so chop chop the locks went. I couldn’t be more happy with the decision either and huge props to my hair stylist, Sarah (@sarahstouthair), for taking me in just hours after I texted her saying that I wanted to chop my hair off.
Bottom line, I just needed to get back to my roots or know that I was attempted to really pick up on trends again rather than just doing the everyday casual stuff. I know that I will lose some followers simply because they won’t understand or appreciate my looks and that is fine – each to their own. But I’m getting into the groove now so that I can be fully prepared for NYFW next fall. The original goal I had made for myself last fall was to hit fall NYFW in three years. Well screw that! Next year, I AM THERE. I now have so many goals I want to accomplish in this next year and this has definitely helped push me in the right direction. I feel me again. Not that I didn’t feel me in the last 4 months, but I really just feel 500% like me again.
