Last Saturday, right after our last counseling class in Newport, Tyler and I drove to Palm Springs as we were invited to be a model couple for this event called The Desert Shootout. Host Brianna Broyles is the creator and host of these styled shootouts! Essentially, 25 photographers from all over the country fly in to shoot us to help build their portfolios!
There were three sets models, each representing phases in a couple’s relationship that would most likely be photographed. One coupled serve as the newly proposed-to couple, Tyler and I were the edgy/glam engagement photos couple, and another couple was the bride and groom. All couples were Christians and believers so it was great being able to talk about church so openly!
We arrived at the venue around 3pm and began hair and make up. The shoot was held at Tumbleweed Sanctuary, a new spot in Joshua Tree for weddings and events. Rooted Hair Studio did some super dope boho braids and fishtail styles on me! Click here to see a video of the first hair style she created on me! It blows my mind how insanely creative hair stylists get with hair!
The photographers began trickling in around 5pm and the shootout began at 5:30. It was definitely an experience to say the least. I’m used to just Tyler taking photos of me on my phone or one photographer when I model for boutiques. Imagine 10-12 photographers shooting you all at the same time! I heard nothing but camera shutters clicks and everyone shouting out different suggestions of how to pose. Initially, I was overwhelmed, but as time passed, Tyler and I really began to enjoy ourselves and have fun with the shoot! All the photographers were so much fun – great direction, so friendly, and our total hype men & women! The only sucky part was that I kept getting these pokey thorn balls stuck to my feet when walking through the desert. I caught so many splinters to the point that I had to get carried all the way back by two guys to get the splinters out with tweezers, haha! But hey, what’s a good time without some bumps and bruises right?
Below are photos all shot by four of the photographers that were there! Although I had an outfit change, I don’t want to mix together each artists’ work, so they’ll each be listed by photographer. Enjoy!
