Unvalued, little, self-conscious, lost, a failure, a loser… we all have days where our minds are flooded with toxic thoughts and feelings. A few weeks back, I had posted to my Instagram story asking for any advice or remedies to help with my sh*tty day. I was, for absolutely no reason, having a horrible day. I woke up feeling like crap mentally, emotionally, and physically. I felt like the smallest person alive. I felt ugly, flat, useless, and pathetic. Honestly, I can’t even describe in whole how I felt, but I felt like I had hit rock bottom – and again, for no apparent reason.
I was overwhelmingly flooded with so much support, tips, advice, and love from all my followers! Just the outpour itself already started to make me feel better. Again, it just solidified for me how strong the sense of community blogging and instagram is and how much positivity it can provide for all of us. Below are all the tips & tricks I was recommended that either help with converting negative thoughts into positive thoughts OR activities that help keep your mind preoccupied and away from the negative feelings:
- Netflix binge
- Pray & read your favorite Bible verses
- Create a ‘Happy/Dance’ playlist and jam to it
- Take a hot bath + wear a face mask
- Do a body scrub
- Detox from social media – delete the app for a day or two
- Take a (long) nap
- Hike and do it without your phone. OR use it only to play music (aka leave it in your pocket/backpack the entire time)
- Jot it down! Don’t bottle up your negative thoughts – type or write it out as a form of release
- Light your favorite candle and read your favorite book
- Write down and say aloud 20 things you’re grateful for
- Clean out your closet. Try to get rid of at least 10 things then take those things to Goodwill or a donation center
- Meditate
- Rub on some aromatherapy essential oil lotion
- Take a drive to the beach while blasting girly 90-00’s music
- Get an ice cream cone or a favorite guilty pleasure
- Browse around at Home Goods, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls (yaaaasss)
- Text a friend, let her know you’re having a bad day and that you need words of encouragement
- Go out for a run
- Go somewhere busy and people watch
Try some of these out the next time you’re having a crappy day. I hope that at least one of these will even just slightly brighten up your bad day. Although I try to stay happy and positive majority of the time, we all have these horrible days. We’re only human but we’re also all in this together.
